Umar Nawaz spoke about his experience of receiving a call-up to the Pakistan national team and what the moment meant to him and his family. The forward said: “The head coach of Pakistan, who is Nolberto Solano, contacted my dad as they have shown interest for a long time. One of the scouts came and watched a few of my games, which I didn’t know about at the time. They spoke to my dad again about a call up, and he was really happy about it, as it was an amazing opportunity to play for my country, which many people don’t get the chance to do. Nolberto Solano then spoke to my coaches at the Club and from there I got the call up, which was a proud moment.” After receiving the news, Umar was delighted to represent the country of his birth, saying: “It was a proud moment for me and my family. It is crazy to think there are like 25 million people in Pakistan, and you are one of them representing the country, it was an honour.” He added that being around highly experienced players in camp taught him a lot and helped build his confidence, and he hopes to receive more call ups in the future.

Additional

Not only was the international call up a great achievement, but it also provided the opportunity to learn from Pakistan head coach Nolberto Solano. Umar said: “It was amazing to learn from someone who has had great experiences at Premier League clubs like Newcastle United. He helped me a lot when I went to the camp and helped me improve my game and offered me some really good advice on how I can become a better player on and off the pitch.
